Help - System Requirements

|
The Toronto Free-Net provides two different types of dial-up internet
access - PPP (Graphical Browsing) and TEXT. Members of TFN
can use either form of access at will, simply by using the appropriate
software to connect to TFN.
PPP - The modern standard for graphical web browsers.
Systems and Software Required:
- Computer with a 33MHz (or faster) processor (486, Pentium), at least
16MB of memory (RAM), a video card and monitor capable of 256 colors
or more, and a modem with a minimum speed of 28.8Kbps (56K recommended).
- Windows 3.1/95/98/ME/2000 Operating System
- Graphical Web Browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, et al.)
- Internet Mail/News Client Software (Outlook, Eudora, et al.)
TEXT - The older standard, which does not display graphics.
Systems and Software Required:
- Computer with a minimum 4MHz processor (286, 386, 486, Pentium),
and a modem with a minimum speed of 2400bps (the faster the better).
- DOS or Windows Operating System, with a standard Communications
(Comm) Terminal program (Windows Terminal or Hyperterminal, DOS ProComm).
Notes: Web Browsing and Mail/News for Text access is performed by software
on the TFN server. You do not need any software on your computer other
than the Terminal program.
Some modems only work with Windows operating systems!
Both PPP and Text services are available on our modem pool: 647-477-1477
(Note: Normal long distance charges apply if calling from outside the
Toronto local calling area).
